UK, DATI SANITARI CONDIVISI CON LE COMPAGNIE ASSICURATIVE
Secondo una recente inchiesta pubblicata dall’Observer la UK Biobank ha fornito dati biomedici a diverse aziende del settore assicurativo e a società attive in ambito tecnologico per consentire alle seconde di creare strumenti digitali capaci di prevedere, grazie all’elaborazione dei dati presenti nei database, il rischio di contrarre malattie croniche. Medici, genetisti, attivisti ed esperti di privacy si sono dichiarati molto preoccupati per come sono stati utilizzati questi dati. Il database in questione contiene milioni di campioni di sangue, saliva e urina, raccolti regolarmente da circa 500.000 volontari adulti, oltre a cartelle cliniche, scansioni, dati di dispositivi indossabili e informazioni sullo stile di vita dei pazienti.

La studentessa Sally McAuley ha citato per negligenza il College di Pierce, da lei frequentato, presso la Corte Superiore della Contea di Pierce. Secondo i suoi legali ben 155.000 ex studenti e personale del College, oltre alla loro assistita, sarebbero stati interessati dal data breach che ha esposto sul dark web i loro dati sensibili, compresi i numeri di previdenza sociale e le informazioni bancarie. Ed è per questo che vorrebbero trasformare la citazione in una class action. Il rappresentante del College ad oggi non ha rilasciato commenti ufficiali.
USA, NUOVO COMITATO DELL’AI ALL’INTERNO DEL DIPARTIMENTO DI GIUSTIZIA
La rivista specializzata GovInfoSecurity, ha pubblicato la notizia secondo la quale il Dipartimento di Giustizia sta per creare un Comitato che dovrà supportare i suoi funzionari nell’uso etico e legale dell’IA. Per quanto concerne la biometria sarebbe compito dei membri del Comitato di esaminare la conformità legale ed etica nell’uso del riconoscimento facciale e degli algoritmi correlati soprattutto per quanto riguarda le forze dell’ordine. Per ottenere regole complete, coerenti ed efficaci per il personale federale la Casa Bianca sta coinvolgendo anche il National Institute of Standards and Technology e i dipartimenti della Sicurezza interna, del Commercio e dell’Energia.

UK, HEALTH DATA SHARED WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES
According to a recent survey published by the Observer, the UK Biobank has provided biomedical data to several insurance companies and technology companies to enable the latter to create digital tools that can predict the risk of chronic diseases by processing the data in their databases. Doctors, geneticists, activists and privacy experts were very concerned about how this data was used. The database in question contains millions of blood, saliva and urine samples, collected regularly from around 500,000 adult volunteers, as well as medical records, scans, data from wearable devices and information on patients’ lifestyles.
USA, DATA BREACH, SENSITIVE DATA OF 155,000 PIERCE COLLEGE STUDENTS EXPOSED ON THE DARK WEB
Student Sally McAuley sued Pierce College, which she attended, in Pierce County Superior Court for negligence. According to her lawyers, as many as 155,000 former students and staff of the College, as well as their client, were affected by the data breach that exposed their sensitive data, including social security numbers and banking information, on the dark web. And that is why they would like to turn the lawsuit into a class action. The College’s representative has so far made no official comment.
US, NEW AI COMMITTEE WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
The specialised magazine GovInfoSecurity published the news that the Department of Justice is about to create a committee that will support its officials in the ethical and legal use of AI. As far as biometrics is concerned, it would be the task of the Committee members to examine legal and ethical compliance in the use of facial recognition and related algorithms, especially with regard to law enforcement. To achieve comprehensive, consistent and effective rules for federal personnel, the White House is also involving the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Departments of Homeland Security, Commerce and Energy.
