Lo Stato del New Jersey in questi giorni è interessato da una causa intentata da un gruppo di genitori che sostengono che, a loro insaputa, sono stati prelevati campioni di sangue dei loro bambini per testare una varietà di disturbi di salute come la fibrosi cistica, le carenze ormonali o altre immunodeficienze e che i dati ottenuti sono stati conservati per più di due decenni. I funzionari del Dipartimento della Salute chiamati in causa dalla stampa si sono rifiutati di commentare cosa accade ai campioni di sangue neonatale dopo che lo screening è stato completato.

Tra il 19 ed il 20 ottobre scorso i dati di oltre 665.000 membri del programma di fidelizzazione del Marina Bay Sands sono stati violati. Di questi dati fanno parte informazioni personali quali nome, indirizzo e-mail, numero di telefono, paese di residenza e dettagli dell’iscrizione. La società di Singapore proprietaria del Marina Bay ha dichiarato di non aver trovato prove che i dati esposti siano stati utilizzati in maniera impropria causando danni ai clienti e che è stata avviata, prontamente, una indagine interna. L’incidente arriva poche settimane dopo che il gigante dell’ospitalità e dell’intrattenimento MGM Resorts ha rivelato un attacco ransomware che costerà all’azienda più di 110 milioni di dollari.

I ragazzi passano sempre più tempo on line ed è sempre più complesso per i genitori monitorare le loro attività e le eventuali interazioni con terzi. Arturo Bejar, ex direttore tecnico di Facebook dal 2009 al 2015 e consulente presso Instagram dal 2019 al 2021, ha testimoniato davanti alla sottocommissione giudiziaria del Senato per la privacy, la tecnologia e la legge che a suo avviso gli alti funzionari di Meta non hanno fatto abbastanza per proteggere i ragazzi che utilizzano le loro piattaforme. In risposta il presidente della sottocommissione Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., e la senatrice Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., hanno dichiarato che il disegno di legge Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), da loro presentato, è la soluzione per limitare quanto denunciato anche da Bejar. Il KOSA si pone come principale obiettivo quello di responsabilizzare le aziende tecnologiche nel realizzare prodotti sicuri anche per i più piccoli.

The State of New Jersey these days is affected by a lawsuit filed by a group of parents who claim that, without their knowledge, blood samples were taken from their children to test for a variety of health disorders such as cystic fibrosis, hormone deficiencies or other immunodeficiencies and congenital disorders, and that the data was stored for more than two decades. Health Department officials called into question by the press declined to comment on what happens to newborn blood samples after the screening is completed
SINGAPORE, DATA BREACH INVOLVES 665 THOUSAND MARINA BAY SANDS CUSTOMERS
Between 19 and 20 October, the data of more than 665,000 members of the Marina Bay Sands loyalty programme was breached. This data included personal information such as name, e-mail address, telephone number, country of residence and membership details. The Singaporean company that owns the Marina Bay said it found no evidence that the exposed data had been misused causing harm to customers and that an internal investigation was promptly launched. The incident comes just weeks after hospitality and entertainment giant MGM Resorts revealed a ransomware attack that will cost the company more than $110 million.

Teenagers are spending more and more time online, and it is increasingly complex for parents to monitor their activities and any interactions with third parties. Arturo Bejar, Facebook’s former chief technology officer from 2009 to 2015 and a consultant at Instagram from 2019 to 2021, testified before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law that in his view Meta’s senior officials have not done enough to protect kids using their platforms. In response, Subcommittee Chairman Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., stated that the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) bill they introduced is the solution to curb what Bejar also complained about. The KOSA’s main goal is to make technology companies responsible for making products safe even for young children.
