NEW HAMPSHIRE, APPROVATO NUOVO DISEGNO DI LEGGE SU PRIVACY DEI CONSUMATORI
Nel New Hampshire il governatore Chris Sununu ha firmato la legge SB 255 che garantisce la protezione completa della privacy dei consumatori. Lo stato diventa così il 14° ad adottare questa misura. Grazie all’approvazione di questa legge i cittadini hanno il diritto di conoscere quali dati personali vengono raccolti dalle aziende, come vengono conservati e di richiederne la cancellazione. Il governatore nella sua dichiarazione alla stampa ha sottolineato l’importanza di questa legge per assicurare ai cittadini il pieno controllo sulle loro informazioni personali. La legge mette anche a disposizione delle aziende linee guida per la gestione, il controllo e la protezione dei dati personali. Inoltre, il governatore ha anche firmato la legge HB 154 che riguarda i dispositivi elettronici per il conteggio delle schede elettorali.

FRANCIA, CNIL EVIDENZIA I RISCHI LEGATI AI TEST GENETICI VENDUTI SU INTERNET
I test genetici venduti online per risalire alla propria discendenza genealogica stanno diventando sempre più diffusi, e secondo la CNIL comportano rischi legati alla fiducia nei risultati e alla mancanza di trasparenza nell’uso dei dati personali sensibili raccolti. Le aziende che vendono un kit per raccogliere campioni di saliva che vengono poi restituiti ed analizzati. Durante questo processo, le aziende raccolgono varie informazioni dal genoma degli individui, come l’origine etnica, caratteristiche fisiche, stato di salute e predisposizione a malattie e anche dati personali come nome, indirizzo e-mail e postale. In alcuni casi vengono richieste ulteriori informazioni su relazioni familiari, eventi di vita, preferenze alimentari e altri dati personali. Questi dati, singolarmente o combinati, offrono numerose informazioni sugli individui e sono di grande valore. Inoltre, i dati genetici raccolti riguardano anche parenti stretti dell’individuo che sottopone il test, anche se non hanno dato consenso o non sono stati informati.

PAESI BASSI, MIGLIAIA DI PASSAPORTI PUBBLICATI SUL DARK WEB
In Olanda, più di 5000 copie digitali di passaporti sono stati ritrovati nel dark web. Questi documenti, che i criminali utilizzano per commettere truffe e frodi d’identità, sono stati rubati grazie ad attacchi ransomware a diverse aziende olandesi. RTL News ha condotto una indagine grazie alla quale, per la prima volta, sono stai mappati i danni causati da questi attacchi informatici. Oltre ai passaporti, sono stati rinvenuti anche altri documenti sensibili, come estratti conto bancari, buste paga e sentenze di divorzio. Le vittime dei furti non sapevano che i propri dati e i documenti si trovavano nel dark web e ora temono che la loro identità possa essere utilizzata in modo improprio dai criminali. Si sospetta che i criminali pubblichino i dati rubati in caso di rifiuto del pagamento di un riscatto, costringendo molte aziende a pagare comunque per evitare spiacevoli conseguenze.

In New Hampshire, Governor Chris Sununu signed into law SB 255, which guarantees comprehensive protection of consumer privacy. The state thus becomes the 14th state to adopt this measure. Genetic tests sold online to trace one’s genealogical lineage are becoming increasingly popular, and according to the CNIL carry risks related to trust in the results and a lack of transparency in the use of the sensitive personal data collected. Companies sell a kit to collect saliva samples that are then returned and analysed. During this process, companies collect various information from the genome of individuals, such as ethnic origin, physical characteristics, health status and predisposition to diseases, and also personal data such as name, e-mail and postal address. In some cases, additional information is requested on family relationships, life events, food preferences and other personal data. These data, individually or combined, provide a wealth of information about individuals and are of great value. In addition, the genetic data collected also concern close relatives of the individual undergoing the test, even if they have not given consent or been informed.

NETHERLANDS, THOUSANDS OF PASSPORTS POSTED ON THE DARK WEB
In the Netherlands, more than 5000 digital copies of passports were found on the dark web. These documents, which criminals use to commit identity fraud, were stolen through ransomware attacks on several Dutch companies. RTL News conducted an investigation whereby, for the first time, the damage caused by these cyber attacks was mapped. In addition to passports, other sensitive documents were also found, such as bank statements, pay slips and divorce decrees. The victims of the thefts did not know that their data and documents were on the dark web and now fear that their identity could be misused by criminals. It is suspected that the criminals publish the stolen data if a ransom payment is refused, forcing many companies to pay anyway to avoid unpleasant consequences.
