IRLANDA, AIRBNB VIETA USO DI TELECAMERE DI SICUREZZA
Airbnb ha annunciato recentemente che vieterà l’uso di telecamere di sicurezza interne nelle strutture presenti sulla sua piattaforma di locazione. La decisione è stata presa per garantire la privacy degli ospiti, dopo alcune segnalazioni di telecamere, anche nascoste, negli alloggi. In precedenza, l’azienda riteneva possibile ‘installazione di telecamere di sicurezza nelle aree comuni, a condizione che fossero segnalate e visibili agli ospiti. La nuova politica, che entrerà in vigore il 30 aprile, vieterà qualsiasi tipo di telecamera di sicurezza interna, indipendentemente dalla sua posizione. Verranno anche introdotte regole più puntuali sull’uso delle telecamere di sicurezza esterne e di altri dispositivi assimilabili, come ad esempio i monitor per misurare decibel del rumore, che dovranno essere sempre resi noti prima della prenotazione. Airbnb, con oltre 7 milioni di annunci in tutto il mondo, sceglie di mettere la privacy degli ospiti al primo posto.

USA, CAMERA APPROVA LA LEGGE PER VIETARE TIKTOK
E’ stata pubblicata anche dagli organi di stampa la notizia che la Camera dei rappresentanti degli Stati Uniti ha votato per approvare una legge che potrebbe vietare TikTok nel paese, stante le preoccupazioni che la App, di proprietà cinese, possa rappresentare una minaccia per la sicurezza nazionale. Ora la legge passa al Senato, ma il suo destino appare ad oggi incerto. Esponenti di entrambi i partiti si sono coalizzati per sostenere l’adozione della legge, sottolineando i rischi che la Cina e questa tecnologia possono rappresentare per l’economia e la sicurezza degli Stati Uniti. Tuttavia, ci sono stati anche membri che si sono opposti alla legge per problemi di libertà di parola. TikTok ha tentato di bloccare la legge, sostenendo che violerebbe i diritti del Primo Emendamento degli utenti americani e danneggerebbe piccole imprese che dipendono dall’app. Alcuni imprenditori hanno testimoniato a favore di TikTok, affermando che l’app ha contribuito a far crescere le loro attività.

BRASILE, NUOVO DISEGNO DI LEGGE GARANTIREBBE MAGGIORE INDIPENDENZA ALL’AUTORIDADE NACIONAL DE PROTECAO DE DADOS
E’ stata riportata dalla stampa la notizia secondo la quale il senatore Ângelo Coronel ha presentato un disegno di legge per garantire l’autonomia dell’Autorità nazionale per la protezione dei dati (ANPD). Ad oggi l’ANPD è un organo speciale con autonomia decisionale, ma non c’è una chiara definizione delle sue prerogative amministrative. Il disegno di legge propone invece di attribuire all’ANPD le stesse prerogative di altre agenzie inclusa l’assenza di subordinazione e l’autonomia funzionale, decisionale, amministrativa e finanziaria. Secondo il direttore generale dell’ANPD, questa modifica rappresenterebbe un passo importante nella direzione del consolidamento dell’autorità come organo centrale nel sistema di protezione dei dati personali del Brasile. L’ANPD accoglie con favore questa iniziativa, poiché rafforzerebbe l’istituzione e garantirebbe la piena protezione dei dati personali degli interessati.

Airbnb recently announced that it will ban the use of internal security cameras in properties on its rental platform. The decision was made to ensure the privacy of guests, after some reports of cameras, even hidden ones, in accommodation. Previously, the company considered it possible to ‘install security cameras in common areas, provided they were signposted and visible to guests. The new policy, which comes into effect on 30 April, will prohibit any type of internal security camera, regardless of its location. There will also be stricter rules on the use of outdoor security cameras and other similar devices, such as noise decibel monitors, which must always be disclosed before booking. Airbnb, with over 7 million listings worldwide, chooses to put guests’ privacy first.

USA, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE APPROVES BILL TO BAN TIKTOK
It has also been reported in the press that the US House of Representatives has voted to approve a bill that could ban TikTok in the country, given concerns that the Chinese-owned app could pose a threat to national security. The bill now goes to the Senate, but its fate appears uncertain to date. Members of both parties have joined together to support the passage of the bill, pointing out the risks that China and this technology may pose to the US economy and security. However, there were also members who opposed the law because of free speech issues. TikTok attempted to block the law, arguing that it would violate the First Amendment rights of American users and harm small businesses that depend on the app. Some entrepreneurs testified in favour of TikTok, claiming that the app helped grow their businesses.

BRAZIL, NEW BILL WOULD GRANT GREATER INDEPENDENCE TO THE AUTORIDADE NACIONAL DE PROTECAO DE DADOS
It has been reported in the press that Senator Ângelo Coronel has introduced a bill to guarantee the autonomy of the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). To date, the ANPD is a special body with decision-making autonomy, but there is no clear definition of its administrative prerogatives. Instead, the draft law proposes giving the ANPD the same prerogatives as other agencies, including absence of subordination and functional, decision-making, administrative and financial autonomy. According to the director general of the ANPD, this amendment would be an important step in the direction of consolidating the authority as a central body in Brazil’s data protection system. The ANPD welcomes this initiative, as it would strengthen the institution and ensure the full protection of the personal data of data subjects.
